Overview:

The 37th edition of the ASAMI WBOA Basic Ilizarov Cadaveric Workshop proved to be a highly successful and academically enriching event. With over 20 enthusiastic delegates in attendance, the workshop aimed to deliver hands-on training in Ilizarov techniques essential for managing complex orthopaedic cases, particularly in limb reconstruction.

An informative pre-workshop webinar set the stage for the cadaveric workshop. Key topics included:

• Biology of Bone Distraction – Dr. Jayant Sharma
• Mechanical Properties of Ilizarov Apparatus – Dr. Ravi Chauhan
• Ilizarov Instrumentation – Dr. Anurag Das
• Safe Zones in Tibia – Dr. Joydeep Mandal
• Corticotomy – Dr. Amar Soni
• Bone Transport vs Docking & Lengthening – Dr. Amiya Bera
• Postoperative Care of an Ilizarov Patient – Dr. Aniruddha Sinha Sarkar

This online session enabled delegates to become familiar with the theoretical foundations before engaging in practical exercises.

Inauguration:

The workshop began with a formal welcome and inauguration ceremony, graced by esteemed faculty members from WBOA and ASAMI India.

5. Hands-On Practice Session: Delegates practiced under expert supervision, gaining confidence in frame application and osteotomy techniques.

The workshop served as an excellent platform for orthopaedic surgeons to enhance their skills in the Ilizarov technique, a vital component in limb reconstruction. The collaborative effort of ASAMI India, WBOA, and the Berhampore Orthopaedic Society resulted in a well-organised, focused, and impactful educational event.
